A Barn Corner Held One Calm Abyssinian and Five Fluffy Ducklings
Straw crunches softly as a ruddy Abyssinian settles into a snug corner of the barn with five fluffy ducklings gathered around her paws. The cat's warm brown coat glows in the daylight, her big ears turned out and her green eyes gazing calmly into the distance. The ducklings stand and sit around her in a loose half circle, their bills pink and their fluff bright yellow against the golden hay. Weathered boards and rough logs frame the nook, and a burlap sack sits on the right, while a sliver of green yard and a wooden fence are visible beyond the barn.
Abyssinians are slim, athletic cats with a reputation for being curious, intelligent and playful. They like to be where the action is, so a barn full of interesting new neighbors is just their kind of place. Ducklings, however, are tiny, and even a friendly cat should be watched at all times near them. Young birds need a warm, dry brooder with clean bedding, fresh water and a safe heat source, and they should not wander freely around a barn where dust, drafts or predators can be a problem. Your vet can offer advice for safe care.
There is something quietly proud in the way she lies there. For a few peaceful minutes, the barn belongs to a calm cat and her tiny, golden crowd.
