The Puppy Gave the Pony's Nose a Tiny Gentle Wash
Grooming day is in full swing, and the puppy has taken charge. A fluffy cream and tan Havanese puppy stretches up with his pink tongue out, giving Pepper the pony a careful lick right on the nose. The pony lies with his legs folded and his eyes half closed, the picture of a client who is perfectly happy with the service.
The golden light spills over the pony's shaggy mane and gives the puppy's fur a warm glow. Behind them, a woven basket full of colorful odds and ends sits near a weathered door, and a pair of sneakers lies in the dust. The two of them are so close that the puppy's small chin barely clears the pony's muzzle.
Licking is a common way for dogs to show affection and curiosity. In puppies, it can be a sign of friendliness and a way to explore. Havanese puppies are known for being cheerful and affectionate, and they often love to groom those they are close to. Ponies, too, groom their friends, often by gently nibbling each other's necks and withers. If you see your pets grooming one another, it is usually a sign they feel comfortable. Still, it is best to supervise their time together, and your vet can advise you on sharing space safely.
The lick may be tiny, but it carries a lot of love. A little grooming between friends is the sweetest kind of thank you.
