Where Does the Retriever End and the Calf Begin? Hard to Tell.
From a distance, it is hard to tell where the dog stops and the calf starts. A deep red-gold Retriever has curled into a tight, sleek circle on the couch, and a small brown-and-white calf has tucked herself right into the curve with her chin resting on his shoulder. A soft blue blanket hangs off the cushion beneath them, and a bright window is glowing behind the couch.
Many Golden Retrievers have the darker red-gold coat, which is a perfectly normal variation within the breed. The dogs are known for their friendly, easygoing nature and for loving a lap, even when they have outgrown it. They need regular brushing to manage shedding and daily exercise to keep their weight in a healthy range.
Curling up is a classic sleep posture for dogs. It conserves warmth and protects the belly, and it is a habit that goes back to their wild ancestors. Cuddling with a friend adds even more warmth, which is why so many pets pile together in cold weather. If your dog sleeps on the couch, a washable throw blanket makes cleanup easy.
Clover and her golden partner are a tidy single bundle of fur and calm. Some naps are better with a friend, and this one clearly qualifies. The couch has rarely held something so comfortable, and the blanket is just there for the ride.
