The Jack Russell Found a Great Window Spot. Then Came a Calf.
Two chins are propped on the same weathered windowsill. A tricolor Jack Russell Terrier in a brown leather collar sits alert with his ears tipped forward, looking out at whatever has caught his attention, and a brown-and-white calf leans against the sill beside him with her head tilted toward the glass. Pale curtains and a small plant on the ledge give the room a gentle, sunny feel.
Jack Russell Terriers are small, athletic dogs with lots of energy and even more determination. They were bred to hunt, so they love chasing, digging and exploring, and they need plenty of daily activity and mental games. A bored terrier can be a clever escape artist, so secure fences and plenty of play are important.
Windowsills are popular spots for pets because they offer a view and a bit of warmth. Dogs and cats alike can spend hours watching birds, squirrels and passersby, which counts as enrichment. If the window is open, make sure there is a secure screen, and keep any houseplants out of reach, since some common ones are harmful to pets.
There is plenty to watch out there, and two sets of eyes are better than one. Clover and her terrier friend look like they are reviewing the world together, and so far the verdict seems to be that it is a pretty good one. The sun on the sill does not hurt either.
