A Calf Leaned Into the Rottweiler by the Fire, and He Let Her
A fire is crackling in a brick fireplace, and the best spot in the room is the patch of floor right in front of it. A black-and-tan Rottweiler lies relaxed on the rug with his head turned toward the camera, and a brown-and-white calf leans against his back with her chin resting just above his shoulder. The mantel above them holds a blanket and a few small trinkets, and sunlight from the window mixes with the orange glow of the flames.
Hearth time is cozy, but it comes with safety rules for pets. A sturdy screen or glass door should always stand between animals and an open fire, and curious noses and wagging tails need to stay clear of hot surfaces. Keep logs, matches and fire tools out of reach, and make sure the fire is out before you leave the room or go to bed.
Rottweilers are strong, loyal dogs with a surprisingly gentle side at home, and they often enjoy resting close to their family. They do best with firm but kind training and regular exercise. Large dogs also like a thick rug or bed on hard floors, since it eases pressure on their joints.
A warm room, a calm friend and a quiet evening make for a good night. Clover has snuggled into her giant black pillow, and she looks like she plans to stay until the fire burns low.
