A Bernese Dog and a Lamb Took Over the Porch Hammock
A hammock swings gently on the porch, and it's completely full. A tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog is stretched across the canvas, chin down, with his thick black coat shining. A white lamb lies tucked in beside him, eyes shut and ears relaxed. Ropes and rustic posts frame them, and the yard stretches out green behind. The only movement is the gentle sway. Cotton sleeps with such trust that she doesn't stir even when the Bernese lets out a long sigh. One of the Bernese's big white-tipped paws hangs over the edge, nearly brushing the porch boards.
Bernese Mountain Dogs come from the Swiss Alps, where they worked pulling carts and helping on farms. They are calm, affectionate and good-natured, though they are big dogs with a thick coat that sheds, so they prefer cool weather. They tend to want to be near their families and are not well suited to long stretches alone. Large breeds like the Bernese can also be prone to joint issues, so a vet can guide diet and exercise. A hammock is a fun spot for a rest, but make sure it's sturdy and low to the ground for any pet. A fresh bowl of water nearby is always a good idea, since large dogs warm up quickly even while resting.
The breeze moves through the porch and the hammock rocks. Nobody is in any rush to wake up. The porch is quiet, and the day is a long one.
