The Samoyed Made a Nest of Fur in the Snow for Her Little Friend
Fresh snow dusts the yard, and a fluffy white Samoyed lies in it like she was made for the job. Her thick coat blends right into the white around her, and her dark eyes look gentle and watchful. Tucked against her chest, with just her nose and ears showing, is a small brown bunny, warm and snug in a nest of fur. Behind them a wooden shed glows faintly from a hanging lantern.
Samoyeds were bred in Siberia to herd reindeer and pull sleds, and their thick double coat keeps them comfortable in the cold. They are friendly, social dogs, and many love being around people and other animals. Cold weather care is different for each pet, though. Rabbits can handle chilly weather better than many expect, but they need shelter from wind, wet, and freezing temperatures, and a hutch should be well insulated. Check water often, since it can freeze. Small pets should not spend long periods outdoors in the snow, and your vet can advise on what is safe for your area and your animals.
This is a little pocket of warmth in a wintery yard. The Samoyed curls her body around the bunny with great care, and the bunny leans in as if it were the most natural thing in the world. A winter evening is always better when you have someone to keep warm, and someone to keep you warm in return.
