A Black Shepherd Squeezed Into the Laundry Basket for a Reason
A big black German Shepherd has somehow folded himself into a wicker laundry basket full of warm towels, his long snout resting on the edge. Tucked into the curve of his body is a small brown bunny, sunk deep into the terry cloth with only her ears and nose showing. The tile floor behind them is bright, and a half-open door hints that the rest of the house is busy while these two take a break.
German Shepherds are intelligent, loyal, and eager to work, and they tend to form strong bonds with their families. A well-trained one can be remarkably gentle with smaller animals, but they need exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy. A basket of warm towels is a favorite of many pets because warmth and softness are comforting, but a few cautions apply. Make sure laundry has no loose threads that a rabbit could chew and swallow, and keep dryer sheets and detergent out of reach, since those can be harmful to pets. If your pet loves a towel nest, a clean, dedicated blanket is the safest choice.
Most dogs and bunnies would never both fit in a basket, and yet here they are, in perfect harmony. The Shepherd's expression is calm and watchful, even half asleep. He may well be guarding his little friend even in his dreams. Some jobs are best done lying down, and keeping a bunny warm is one of them.
