A Chocolate Chihuahua and a Bunny Spent the Evening by the Fire
Near a stone fireplace with a few logs stacked beside it, a chocolate-colored Chihuahua sleeps peacefully on a chunky knit blanket. A small brown bunny has snuggled right against her, pressing her cheek into the dog's side with eyes half shut. Spectacles rest on a small table behind them, and a wicker basket holds more kindling. The glow of the room is soft and amber.
Fireplaces are wonderful for a cozy evening, but they need some pet safety thought. Use a screen or guard so no curious nose or paw gets too close, and keep pets away from hot surfaces, sparks, and ash. Small dogs like Chihuahuas feel the cold and are drawn to warm spots, while rabbits can also overheat, so make sure there is a cooler place in the room to retreat to. Ask your vet if you are unsure about the best temperature for your pets. Warm blankets are lovely, but check them for loose threads that a rabbit might chew.
The Chihuahua's brown coat and the bunny's soft fur blend together so closely that it is hard to see where one begins. Both are deeply relaxed, and the whole picture feels like the end of a long and happy day. A warm room, a quiet evening, and a good friend to lean on is all anyone could ask for.
