The Husky Puppy Wrapped a Paw Around the Pony and Wouldn't Let Go
Snow dusts the ground and a few flakes cling to a cream-colored coat. Clover the pony lies tucked into the snow with her eyes closed and her damp mane falling over her cheek, while a black-and-white Siberian Husky puppy curls against her shoulder. His pale blue eyes are alert, and one white paw is draped across her neck as if to say that she is his to look after. A wooden fence and bare branches blur behind them in the quiet winter light.
Siberian Huskies were bred for cold climates and have a thick double coat that helps them stay comfortable in winter. They are playful, energetic, and often talkative, and they usually need lots of exercise and company. Even cold-loving dogs, though, benefit from sensible winter care, such as a dry place to rest, fresh water that has not frozen, and a check of their paws after time in the snow. Ponies also grow thick winter coats, but they appreciate shelter from wind and wet. If you are planning outdoor time for any animal in freezing weather, your vet can advise you on what is safe.
The little Husky looks proud of his job. Whether he is actually keeping Clover warm or simply enjoying a very fluffy neighbor, the two make a peaceful picture, and the cold seems to stay on the other side of the fence.
