A Basset Hound Puppy Found the Coziest Pillow by the Fireplace
A cold hearth, a stack of logs, and a woven rug make up the quiet corner where Clover the shaggy pony has settled in. Her mane is tousled, her dark eye half-lidded, and her shaggy coat looks soft as a blanket. Tucked against her chest is a Basset Hound puppy, his long brown ears draped over his white paws and his sleepy gaze turned toward the camera. The plants on the windowsill and a gray knit throw complete the cozy picture.
Basset Hounds are known for their long ears, droopy faces, and gentle, easygoing natures. Their low, sturdy build and wrinkled brows give them a permanently thoughtful look. Those long ears can trap moisture and dirt, so many owners clean them regularly, and a vet can show you how. Bassets also love to follow their noses, so a secure yard is a good idea. Like many puppies, they tend to be sleepy for much of the day, and a warm, soft spot near a friend is about as good as it gets. If you have a fireplace, keep pets a safe distance from open flames and hot surfaces.
There is something deeply restful about the pair. The puppy leans in as though the pony were a living pillow, and Clover bears the weight with great dignity. Both look as if they have nowhere else to be, and no wish to go anywhere.
