A Black Devon Rex Became the Warmest Seat in the Garden for Six Ducklings
On a striped outdoor rug at the edge of a garden, a sleek black Devon Rex lies with her head up and her enormous ears perfectly alert. Her coat is short and crinkled like soft velvet, and her amber eyes are narrowed in a thoughtful, motherly look. Around her, six fluffy ducklings have settled into a cluster, some resting on her front paws, others pressed in at her shoulder, and one sprawled at the front, head turned toward the camera. Planters and a wooden fence stand behind them in the sunshine.
The Devon Rex is a small, playful cat with oversized ears, a pixie-like face, and a soft, wavy coat that sheds very little. Many people describe the breed as affectionate, social, and a bit mischievous. Because their coat is fine, they like warm spots and can get chilly easily. Ducklings also love warmth, which is part of why they snuggle. Outdoor time is lovely for both, but ducklings need a safe pen with shelter, and cats should be supervised around them. A vet can advise on the best setup for baby birds and a household cat.
The mix of the black cat and the golden ducklings is striking, a bit like a dark night dotted with little suns. The cat seems to accept the job calmly, and the ducklings treat her like the best seat in the garden.
