The Bernese Mountain Dog Stayed Still While the Ducklings Went Exploring
Draped across a soft rug in a sunny room, a Bernese Mountain Dog lies with her head down and her eyes half closed. Several yellow ducklings are scattered across her back and paws, some walking, some resting, and one standing alone on the rug beside her. A laundry basket sits behind them, a window lets in a stripe of daylight, and the whole room has the quiet feel of a lazy afternoon. Toys and a worn blanket are scattered around the floor.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, affectionate dogs bred as farm helpers in the Swiss Alps, and they are known for calm, gentle temperaments. Their thick coats mean they feel warm quickly, so a cool floor suits them just fine. They love being part of the family and usually do best with plenty of company. Their size alone is a good reason to supervise any meeting with tiny birds, since one clumsy roll could be dangerous. Regular brushing helps keep their long coat comfortable and free of tangles.
The tricolor coat of black, rust, and white stands out beautifully against all that yellow down. The dog doesn't stir at all.
Her eyes are soft and her expression is peaceful, which suggests she's perfectly fine with being a mountain for the afternoon. The ducklings, for their part, seem to think this is the finest hill in the county.
