Warm Towels, a Wicker Basket, and One Terrier Who Doesn't Mind Sharing
Fresh from the dryer, a pile of cream towels has become the coziest nest in the house. A tricolor Jack Russell Terrier sits curled at the back of the laundry basket with his chin lying on the edge, and in front of him a short-coated gray cat lies with her paws tucked and eyes shut. The basket is woven wicker, the towels are rumpled, and the room behind them is a happy mess of clothes and shoes. Sunlight slants in from the doorway and warms the whole corner.
A dog and a cat sharing a bed is a good sign of comfort and trust. Cats tend to pick warm, soft, enclosed spaces, and a basket of warm laundry checks every box. Jack Russells are lively little dogs who need a great deal of play and exercise, so a nap like this probably follows a busy morning. Wicker is fine for most pets, but check baskets for splintered or loose strands that could snag a paw or nose.
The terrier's brown patch over one eye gives him a slightly serious expression, as if he's guarding the nap. The gray cat doesn't seem to worry in the least. Her breathing is slow, and her ears are relaxed. Their quiet pairing is a nice reminder that opposites often get along.
There is something very satisfying about warm towels and sleepy friends. The day outside can wait, and the basket holds all the comfort anyone needs.
