There Was Barely Room in the Box, But the Retriever and Maine Coon Made It Work
A cardboard box is a magnet for cats, and this one has drawn in a dog as well. A deep red-gold retriever rests her chin on the box edge, her warm brown eyes looking up with calm affection, and next to her a silver Maine Coon sits upright with big tufted ears and a thoughtful stare. A soft lamp, a sofa, and a pair of slippers sit in the room behind them. The box flaps are crumpled from many happy hours of use, and a patch of sunlight touches the corner.
Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, and they are usually gentle, sociable, and friendly toward other pets. Their thick coats need regular brushing, especially around the belly and behind the ears. Cats love boxes because enclosed spaces help them feel safe and warm, and a good box can also lower stress. It's a simple, free comfort item, though always remove any tape or staples that could catch on a paw.
The two don't seem to mind that it's a snug fit. The retriever's gentle expression and the cat's steady gaze suggest a friendship in which neither has to prove anything. A soft, half-closed look from the retriever says he agrees entirely.
Cardboard may be humble, but it holds a lot of love. In the soft indoor light, they look like they could stay there all day.
