A Chocolate Lab and a Tortoiseshell Cat Found the Biggest Pile of Leaves
A pile of golden maple leaves is the best playground of the year, and a chocolate Labrador and a tortoiseshell cat have found it. The Lab sits with a leaf stuck to his ear and a wide, happy mouth, and the cat reaches out with one paw to bat at something between them. The leaves crunch around them, and behind them a house with white siding and a few pots of plants waits for supper. Sunlight slants low across the yard, turning every leaf into a small piece of gold.
Autumn leaves can be fun for pets, but a few precautions are smart. Wet or moldy leaves can hide mushrooms or other things you don't want pets eating, so keep an eye on what they nibble. Labradors love to play and carry things in their mouths, and tortoiseshell cats are known for lively, spirited personalities. A bit of supervised play helps both burn energy and strengthens their friendship.
The cat's paw is in mid-reach, as if she is testing whether the Lab will play along. He leans in, relaxed and friendly, and that's all the encouragement she needs. His tail is probably thumping somewhere out of the frame.
Leaf piles don't last forever, which is exactly why they feel so special. For now, the air is crisp and the pile is big. Tomorrow, the wind may scatter it all.
