A Grumpy-Faced Persian Sits Very Still Among Ducklings and Leaves

Crunchy brown and orange leaves have drifted across the floor, and a white Persian cat sits at the edge of the pile with the world-weary look only a flat-faced cat can pull off. Around her, six or seven fluffy ducklings are busy exploring. One perches on another's back, a few waddle straight ahead, and one is nosing through the oak leaves as if hunting for treasure. A wicker basket and a cozy blanket sit in the background, which makes the whole scene feel like a mudroom on a golden October day.

Persians are famous for their calm, dignified personalities and their long, silky coats. That gorgeous fur comes with a price, though. It tangles easily, so most Persians need a gentle brushing every day, and their flat faces mean they often need their eyes wiped regularly. Many Persians are happiest in a quiet home where they can lounge on the couch and supervise. Real ducklings, for their part, are curious and messy and grow fast, so they need a proper brooder and clean bedding rather than a pile of leaves. If a cat ever shares space with baby birds, a careful human should always be nearby.

The Persian here seems to have accepted her role completely. She doesn't pounce, she doesn't fuss, she just sits there looking faintly unimpressed while the ducklings treat her like part of the scenery. Some friendships don't need any big gestures at all.
