Five Ducklings and One Black Cat Share a View of the Pond

By the edge of a quiet garden pond, a black cat sits tall on a row of old flat stones. His fur is long and glossy, his golden eyes are fixed on something across the water, and his profile looks almost carved. Beside him, a stack of fluffy ducklings is crowded in a line along the stone, five or six little yellow heads all pointing toward the pond. Lily pads float on the green water and tall grasses lean in from the bank.

Black cats have a long and charming history, and a glossy black Maine Coon is quite a sight. Maine Coons are large, friendly cats that often like water more than most breeds do, and some will happily bat at a dripping faucet or dabble a paw in a bowl. Ducklings, meanwhile, are naturally drawn to ponds, but very young ones don't yet have fully waterproof feathers and can get chilled or even tired quickly. Anyone raising ducklings should supervise every swim and keep the water shallow. A garden pond is also best treated with caution around cats and children in general.

The mood here is purely peaceful. The cat looks like a quiet guard at the edge of a very small kingdom, and the ducklings look like eager sightseers. Everyone is pointed the same direction, and that seems to be exactly how they like it.
