A Great Dane Puppy and a Pony Share One Big Bowl of Water
A big metal basin of fresh water is sitting on a mat, and two thirsty friends have arrived at the same time. A brindle Great Dane puppy with a blue collar has his muzzle in the water, his tongue lapping, while a fluffy tan pony dips his nose in from the other side. Splashes dot the floor around them. A green jacket hangs on a hook, rubber boots stand by the wall and a few toys wait in the corner. It looks like a pit stop after a good run.
Great Danes are one of the tallest dog breeds, but they are often called gentle giants because of their calm, friendly nature. Puppies grow remarkably fast, so a vet-recommended diet and gentle exercise help protect their developing bones and joints. Large, deep-chested dogs can also be prone to bloat, so many owners avoid heavy exercise right after meals and talk to their vet about safe feeding routines. Fresh water should always be available to both dogs and ponies, and ponies can drink a surprising amount each day, so a big basin is a good idea.
The sharing is easy and quiet, and neither seems bothered by the other's splashing. A drink side by side is a small act of trust. By the time the bowl is empty, they may be friends for good.
