Rain Fell Outside, and a Horse and a Havanese Watched It Together

Rain streaks the glass, a lamp glows warm in the corner, and two friends have settled in to watch the weather. A fluffy cream Havanese sits on a cushioned seat inside, with his soft ears and dark eyes turned toward the window. On the other side of the pane, a gentle chestnut horse rests his big head against the frame and gazes in with calm, thoughtful eyes. Wet trees blur in the gray light behind him. We'll call the Havanese Teddy and the horse Copper.

Havanese are cheerful, affectionate companion dogs from Cuba, and they are famously attached to their families. They love to be where the action is, which is why you will often find one perched at a window. Their long, silky coats need regular brushing to prevent tangles, especially on rainy days when the fur can get damp. Horses, for their part, are social herd animals who like having company nearby, even if there is a pane of glass in between.

Rainy days are good for quiet bonding, and watching the weather can be soothing for pets. Keep an eye on your own dog after wet walks: towel them dry, check between the toes, and give them a warm, dry place to rest. Some dogs get anxious during thunderstorms, so a calm space with familiar bedding can help, and your vet can suggest more ideas.

Teddy and Copper don't need a word to say how they feel about each other. Rain looks a lot friendlier with a friend on the other side of the window.
