A Cavalier and a Lamb Both Had Their Eyes on the Garden Bed

Two faces line up along the weathered boards of a raised garden bed. The ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has big, round brown eyes and long, glossy ears that frame his face like curtains, and beside him a white lamb with neat pink ears gazes the same direction. Behind them, a blue watering can, a coil of green hose and a few clay pots litter the yard. The bed in front of them is dark soil with a few small green sprouts poking through.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are affectionate, gentle dogs that thrive on companionship, so a lamb friend suits one nicely. Their long ears can trap moisture and dirt, so regular cleaning is a good habit, and your vet can show you how. Lambs love to nibble, and a garden bed is tempting, but some plants and garden products are harmful to livestock and pets. Mulches, fertilizers and slug bait are common culprits, so store them securely. If you are growing a vegetable patch, fence it so curious animals cannot trample or eat your crop. Animals often enjoy looking over a garden, and watching is a fine way for them to take part without causing damage. Keep an eye out for anything that might upset a stomach.

The seedlings are safe, for now, under the watchful eyes of two spectators. It looks like the beginning of a great gardening partnership.
