The Weimaraner and the Lamb Fell Asleep Face to Face in the Hay
The Weimaraner's long, sleek face lies flat on the straw and the lamb's face rests right next to it. Both pairs of eyes are closed. His silvery coat and her creamy wool look gorgeous together under the warm light, and a rubber boot, a bucket and a blanket sit by the wall behind them. The straw is golden and fresh, and the air in the barn seems to have gone still.
Weimaraners are athletic, intelligent dogs that were bred for hunting and tend to need a lot of exercise. They are also very attached to their people and can be sensitive. Because they have strong prey drives, they should be trained and supervised when around livestock. Lambs are best kept with their own kind or a farmer who understands their needs, but a gentle dog can offer comfort. Fresh straw is a good bedding choice for animals, as long as it is clean and dry. Be careful with moldy or dusty hay, which can cause breathing problems. Provide fresh water and a draft-free spot. A calm barn is a good place for rest, and good care helps young animals grow strong. Check the barn for hazards like loose nails, wire and cleaning products before animals settle in.
Two peaceful faces on the straw, with a day of work behind them. The barn can wait until morning.
