A Boxer Puppy Decided That He Was the Best Gift in the Room
A brindle Boxer puppy lies inside a cardboard box, chin on the edge, wearing the serious expression of a puppy who has decided that he is the present. A big red bow sits on the box's corner, and shredded paper is scattered around his paws. Behind him, a garland of greenery runs along the mantel, a blue blanket drapes over a chair and sunlight streams through the window. He gazes at the camera with big, soulful eyes.
Boxers are playful, energetic dogs that often keep their puppy-like silliness for years. They are strong and bouncy, so early training and plenty of exercise help keep them calm indoors. Many puppies love boxes, since a small enclosed space feels cozy and safe, just as cats do. Boxes are good, cheap enrichment, but check that there is no tape, staples or small bits that could be swallowed. Shredded paper can be a choking hazard if eaten, so pick it up. Supervise puppies around wrapping and decorations, and give them their own toys. If a puppy gets into the habit of hiding in boxes, it may be a sign he wants a den, so a covered crate or a cozy bed can help him rest.
He may not be wrapped, but he is definitely a gift. Everyone in the house would agree on that.
