The Spookiest Thing in the House Tonight Is About the Size of a Teacup
The spookiest thing in the house tonight is about the size of a teacup. A fluffy white kitten with a flat little face and pale blue eyes sits on a green couch, draped in a miniature ghost costume made from a thin white sheet. One ear pokes through a hole, the fabric hangs in loose folds around her body, and her expression is a perfect blend of solemn and grumpy. Behind her, a jack-o'-lantern glows near the hallway, scattered leaves and candy dot the wooden floor and a plaid blanket spills out of a wicker basket.
The flat face, round head and long, cloud-like fur are classic Persian traits. Persians are typically gentle and quiet, preferring calm households over loud ones, which makes Halloween noise and doorbells especially unsettling for many of them. Their long coats need daily combing to prevent mats, and their eyes often need gentle cleaning because of their facial structure. A light fabric draped briefly over the back for a photo is less restrictive than a tight costume, but make sure nothing covers the nose or blocks breathing, and remove it right away if the kitten seems uneasy.
This little ghost may not know how to say boo yet, but that stare is haunting enough. Consider the couch officially haunted. Once the sheet comes off, a cozy blanket and a quiet room will suit her just fine.
