Something Peeked Out Between the Tombstones in the Backyard Graveyard

AI imagebritish shorthairhalloween yardtombstones

Between two weathered-looking tombstones in a backyard "graveyard," a tiny blue-gray kitten has emerged to see who is visiting. His plush fur is the color of storm clouds, his round face is framed by small ears, and his wide copper-green eyes peer straight ahead with an expression that is equal parts curious and spooky. Pinecones, fallen leaves and dry twigs litter the ground at his feet. Farther back, a green watering can, a couple of orange pumpkins and the side of the house sit in the fading evening light.

That dense, plush blue-gray coat and round face are typical of the British Shorthair, a breed known for its calm, easygoing nature and teddy-bear looks. British Shorthairs tend to be affectionate without being overly demanding, and many are content to follow their people from room to room. Yard decorations like foam tombstones are generally harmless, but stakes, wires and small decorative pieces can poke or tangle a curious kitten. Inflatable decorations with fans, extension cords and anything with a battery should be checked regularly. Young kittens should only explore outdoors under close supervision.

This little ghost-hunter has made the graveyard his own. If anything spooky is lurking out there, it is no match for those enormous eyes. Once the sun goes down, though, he would probably prefer a warm spot on the couch indoors.
