Something Magical Is Brewing on Top of This Porch Hay Bale

Something magical is brewing on the porch. A cream-colored kitten with a round, flat face and big amber eyes sits atop a golden hay bale, wearing a tiny black witch hat tilted just slightly to one side. Her fluffy fur is the color of warm vanilla, and her serious little frown makes her look like she is concentrating very hard on a spell. Small orange pumpkins are tucked around the base of the bale, dried corn husks and fallen leaves litter the steps, and a window and a weathered wall frame this cozy Halloween corner.

Hay bales are a classic fall decoration, and cats often love climbing on them. A few precautions help. Loose hay can harbor dust and mold, which may irritate sensitive airways, and sharp stalks can poke at eyes, so it is best for a short photo rather than a regular napping spot. Flat-faced breeds like the Exotic Shorthair, which this kitten resembles, can be more prone to eye and breathing sensitivities, making that extra care worthwhile. A lightweight hat with no elastic chin strap, worn for only a moment, is about as much costume as most cats will tolerate.

With a hat like that and an expression this serious, she looks ready to cast a spell of pure cuteness over the whole neighborhood. Consider everyone enchanted.
