A Strand of Lights Fell From the Tree. A Kitten Fell Right In.
The lights are still on, and so is the kitten. A fluffy orange longhair lies in the middle of a loop of green-wired Christmas lights that has slid off the tree and curled around her like a glowing nest. Her pale blue eyes look off into the distance with the calm of someone who has no idea she is tangled, while tiny bulbs glow warmly against the carpet and the tree rises above her.
A kitten and a string of lights deserve a careful eye. Cords can be tempting to chew, and chewing electrical wires can cause burns or shocks. Wrapping can also tighten around a small body or legs if she struggles. If you find a kitten tangled, stay calm, unplug the lights first, and gently unwind them rather than pulling. Cord covers, lights placed higher on the tree, and an unplugged string when nobody is home all help. Longhair kittens like this one also pick up everything in their fur, so a quick brush after the adventure is a good idea.
The fluffy glow of her coat matches the lights so well that she looks like part of the display. We'll call her Marmalade. After a minute of thinking about her next move, she's likely to roll over, discover the lights are still there, and call it the best game of the entire holiday.
