A Tiny Kitten Looked Up at the Tree and Went Completely Still
Head tilted up and blue eyes shining, a fluffy cream kitten with pale gray ears gazes at something high above. The tree behind it glows with warm lights and a long wooden bead garland, and the living room beyond is delightfully cluttered, with a plaid blanket, a basket, a stuffed bear, and a pair of shoes near a cardboard box. The kitten is small enough that the whole room must seem like a mountain range.
Long, silky coats like this are common in Ragdoll kittens, a breed known for a soft temperament and a tendency to go limp when held, which is how the breed got its name. They usually take a few years to reach full size and color. Their fur is easier to keep tangle-free with a soft brush a couple of times a week, which also makes a nice bonding ritual. A friendly tip for homes with a tree: secure it so it cannot tip, skip tinsel and hanging glass ornaments at paw level, and cover any water bowl.
What does the kitten see up there? Perhaps a dangling ornament, a flicker of light, or just the wonder of a big green thing that appeared indoors. We can call her Pearl. She looks like she is learning that the season has surprises, and each one is better than the last.
