The First Snow Came Down, and the Puppy Just Sat There Watching
Snow is coming down in soft flakes, and a brindle puppy sits at the window with ears relaxed and nose pointed toward the glass. Its brown and tan coat is streaked with darker stripes, and its dark eyes are fixed on the snowy yard outside. A small evergreen wreath hangs on the window frame, and a blanket and a plush toy rest in the corner. The winter light is cool and bright, while the room feels warm and quiet.
Many dogs love to watch the world from a window, and snowfall is especially interesting because everything looks and sounds different. Rescue puppies can take time to settle into a new home, and a window spot gives them a place to observe at their own pace. If your pup is new to snow, start with short trips outside and wipe off their paws afterward, since ice, salt, and chemicals on sidewalks can irritate skin. Young puppies get cold quickly, so keep outdoor time brief and bring them in when they start to shiver.
We will call this thoughtful pup Hazel. She may be wondering what these white specks are, or why the yard has gone so quiet. Tomorrow there may be a first romp in the snow, but tonight is for watching from a warm spot and letting the day slow down.
