A Big Mug of Cocoa Sat on the Table. A Great Dane Puppy Had Opinions.
Seated close to a wooden coffee table, a gray-blue Great Dane puppy stares at a big cream mug of hot cocoa floating with marshmallows. Its ears droop, its skin is loose and wrinkled over its brow, and its paws look enormous for its size. The tree glows in the background, a couch overflows with blankets and a plush toy, and a green knit throw and a few papers share the table with the mug.
Hot cocoa is a cozy treat for people, but dogs should stay away. Chocolate contains theobromine, which dogs process slowly, and it can be harmful, especially in larger amounts or in darker types. Marshmallows may contain xylitol in some products, which is toxic to dogs. A hot mug is also a burn risk, and a tall Great Dane puppy can reach more than you might expect. Keep drinks well back from the edge of the table, and call your vet if your pet gets into something it should not.
This sweet pup, whom we will name Bluebell, is mostly interested in staring. Her big eyes and thoughtful expression make it hard to be annoyed with her. A safe dog treat can stand in for the cocoa another time. For now, the scene is a sweet one, a gentle giant-in-training and a very tempting mug. Great Dane puppies are famously gentle, and this one seems content simply to look, with all the patience in the world.
