The Box Had a Bow on It, and the Basset Hound Puppy Fit Perfectly
Two big paws rest on the edge of a cardboard box, and above them sits the long, soulful face of a tricolor Basset Hound puppy. Its ears droop nearly to the box, its brown eyes look off to the side, and a red bow dangles on the box front. Green and red striped tissue paper fills the box. In the room behind, a sofa piled with stuffed animals, a lamp, a mug, and a string of garland on the window make the space feel like home.
Basset Hounds are gentle, easygoing dogs with a legendary sense of smell, second only to a few other breeds. Their long ears and short legs give them a droopy charm, but their ears need regular cleaning, and their long backs deserve care, so avoid letting them jump from high places. They can be stubborn about training, so patience and tasty rewards work well. Basset puppies are famous for enjoying a good nap and a good sniff, and a box with soft paper is a perfect combination of both.
We will call this sweet-faced fellow Barney. He looks as though he has been placed in the box as a gift, and he seems quite content about it. His expression is calm and thoughtful, and he is in no hurry to leave his new spot. Some presents come with a bow, and some are simply the best part of the day.
