A Calico Cat Climbed Onto the Sled and Took Charge of the Hill
Sitting tall on a weathered wooden sled, a calico cat gazes into the distance with golden-green eyes. Its coat is a patchwork of orange, black, and white, and its white chest and paws are neat and clean. Thin snow covers the lawn around the sled, and in the soft light a house with a wreath on the door is visible behind. The cat looks like a captain at the helm, waiting for the ride to begin.
Calico cats are known for their three-color coats, and nearly all of them are female. Many people describe them as spirited and independent, though every cat has its own personality. Cats are generally best kept indoors, especially in winter, since they can get cold quickly and ice, salt, and antifreeze are all hazards outdoors. A supervised visit to a secure yard is fine for a short time, but it is wise to dry paws afterward. Cats also love elevated spots, which may explain why this one picked a sled as a perch.
We will call this proud passenger Marigold. She sits upright, as if she has already decided where the sled is going. Whether or not anyone gives it a push, she has the view she wants. A sled in the snow and a calico on top make a charming picture of a quiet winter afternoon.
