A Hairless Sphynx Cat Discovered the Joy of a Big Leaf Pile
The leaves are bright and the Sphynx is delighted. A pink hairless cat rolls and paws through a heap of orange maple leaves on a lawn, one hind leg stretched out and big ears pointed up, looking about as playful as a cat can. A cluster of pumpkins sits nearby, a doorstep waits behind and a few leaves drift in the breeze. The warm orange of the leaves makes the cat's skin look even pinker.
Sphynx cats have little or no hair, so they feel the cold quickly and can sunburn, and they need warmth and protection. Autumn weather can be chilly, so outdoor time should be short and supervised, perhaps in a harness, and a warm sweater and a heated bed indoors are common choices for this breed. Their skin also gets oily, so many owners bathe them regularly with a vet-approved routine, and they need their ears cleaned often. Sphynx are social, energetic and love attention, and they often seek out laps and warm spots. Check leaf piles for sticks, thorns or damp mold before play, and give paws a wipe afterward.
It is a sweet picture of a cat who loves to play and a season that provides plenty of things to pounce on. Soon he will be back inside, curled in a blanket, but for the moment, the leaves are all his.
