A Siamese Cat Walked Off With the Entire Bag of Halloween Candy
A pair of icy blue eyes looks up from beside a table, and a clear bag of colorful wrapped candy hangs from the cat's mouth. The blue point Siamese is pale grey and cream with a darker face and ears, and her whiskers are pressed forward as she carries off her prize. Behind her sits a jack-o'-lantern, a mug and a jumble of costume pieces and decorations, and the golden light of the late afternoon fills the room.
Halloween candy is one of the most common holiday hazards for pets. Chocolate is toxic to cats, and sugar-free sweets containing xylitol can be poisonous. The wrappers themselves can cause serious trouble if swallowed, since foil and plastic can block the intestines. If you suspect a cat has eaten candy, call your vet or a pet poison hotline right away and have the wrapper handy, rather than waiting for symptoms. Keep the candy bowl and bags in a closed cupboard or high up. Siamese cats are intelligent, talkative and persistent, so a well-hidden stash is wise, and a puzzle feeder or play session can keep a smart cat busy during busy evenings.
With a gentle trade for a favorite toy, the bag will find its way back to the shelf and the cat will move on to her next adventure. For now, she carries off the loot with such grace that it is hard to be cross.
