This Shiba Puppy Took Command of the Backyard in a Pirate Hat
Ahoy from the backyard. A cream-colored Shiba Inu puppy sits on a lawn scattered with fall leaves, wearing a black pirate hat with a skull on it, an eye patch and a navy vest that looks like a tiny captain's coat. The one uncovered eye looks straight at the viewer with a calm, slightly mysterious gaze. Behind the puppy, a wooden fence and a few pumpkins complete the scene of a very small ship docked on very green grass.
Shiba Inus are known for their independent, cat-like personalities. They are often clean, alert and a bit stubborn, and many do not love being told what to do. That makes patience important with a Shiba puppy, especially around costumes. If you want to try an outfit, keep the sessions short, offer treats and stay upbeat. An eye patch should never actually cover the dog's eyes, so a patch that sits on the head or the side of the face is a safer idea than one that blocks vision.
Early socialization matters a lot for the breed. Gentle introductions to new people, sounds and places while the puppy is young help a Shiba grow into a relaxed adult. A Halloween yard, with rustling leaves and glowing pumpkins, is a nice and low-pressure place to practice.
As for this captain, he seems entirely satisfied with the arrangement. Treasure is probably buried somewhere under that fence, and he is in no hurry to dig it up.
