A Saint Bernard Puppy Waited by the Oven for the Turkey
Nose pointed right at the oven door, a red and white Saint Bernard puppy sits and gazes through the glass at a golden-brown turkey roasting inside. The big dark eyes and drooping jowls give him a hopeful look, and the fluffy white chest rises with each breath. The stainless steel oven reflects the warm glow of the roast, and the kitchen is quiet and bright.
A roasting turkey smells wonderful, and a dog's nose picks up every detail. For safety, keep a puppy back from the oven door, since the glass and the pan are very hot. Never give dogs cooked turkey bones, which can splinter, or skin and drippings, which are rich and fatty and can upset the stomach. A small piece of plain, cooked turkey meat is usually fine, but ask your vet if you're unsure.
Saint Bernards are large, gentle dogs with a calm and patient nature. They have been used as rescue dogs in the Alps and are known for their loving behavior with families. Puppies grow quickly and need careful feeding and moderate exercise to protect their joints. They also drool, so a towel nearby is a smart idea. Early training and manners are important for a dog that will grow so big.
This puppy is the most patient guest in the house. The turkey has hours to go, but he's willing to wait.
