The Kitten Said She Was Only Looking at the Candy. The Bag Said Otherwise.
She was only supposed to look. A cream Scottish Fold kitten sits on the wooden table with a bright orange bag of candy clamped gently in her mouth, her small folded ears tipped forward and her golden eyes looking off to the side. A small pumpkin and a few fall leaves lie on the table beside her, and a couch sits in the soft light of the room behind.
Candy bags are a common Halloween problem for pets. Chocolate is dangerous for cats and dogs, and sugar-free sweets can contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. Wrappers themselves can also block a small stomach if swallowed. The best protection is storage: keep candy in a closed cabinet or high up out of reach, and teach children to keep treat bags off the floor. If you think your kitten swallowed anything, call your vet or an animal poison hotline right away.
Scottish Folds are known for their folded ears and round faces, which give them an owl-like look. They are usually sweet-natured, and many are quite playful as kittens. This one has the guilty but proud look of someone who just completed a successful mission. She clearly thinks the bag is a wonderful prize, and she'd probably carry it around the whole house like a trophy if she could. Moments like this are a good reminder to slow down and enjoy the small things. A kitten's whole world is only a few feet wide, and she seems perfectly content inside it.
