The Pumpkin Was Carved. The Calico Kitten Came to Inspect the Seeds.
The carving is finished, the jack-o'-lantern is grinning from the back of the table, and all that's left is the mess. A small calico kitten has crept up to investigate, nose low, sniffing along a trail of pumpkin seeds and orange strings. Scissors, a glass of water, and a roll of paper towels sit near the edge, and a window lets in warm late-day light.
A pumpkin carving table is full of things that interest a kitten, but not all of them are safe. Plain pumpkin flesh and seeds are generally fine in small amounts, but carving tools are sharp, candles inside jack-o'-lanterns are a fire and burn risk, and moldy pumpkin can upset a stomach. A battery-powered light is a safer choice for homes with pets. Sweep up the scraps when you finish, and keep scissors and knives where little paws can't reach.
Calico cats are almost always female, and their patchwork of white, black, and orange is as individual as a fingerprint. Many people describe them as spirited and independent, and this one looks very focused on her investigation. The pumpkin is carved, the seeds are everywhere, and the day is winding down. It was a good day to be a kitten with a fine nose and a lot of curiosity. Moments like this are a good reminder to slow down and enjoy the small things. A kitten's whole world is only a few feet wide, and she seems perfectly content inside it.
