The Jack-o'-Lantern Had a Brand New Face Inside
Only a small, silky head and two long ears show above the rim of the pumpkin. A tricolor Cavalier puppy has climbed into a big carved jack-o'-lantern and settled in as if it were a bed, dark eyes wide and a white blaze running down her face. Orange leaves have blown across the porch floor, and a laundry basket and a pair of jeans sit in the clutter behind her. The pumpkin's triangle eyes and jagged grin make her look even smaller.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are famously gentle and affectionate, often happiest right next to their people. They are small, friendly dogs that generally get along with children and other pets, and they enjoy both a walk and a long cuddle. Their silky ears are lovely but can collect dirt, so regular brushing and ear checks are a good habit. Carved pumpkins are best kept as decoration rather than snacks, since they spoil quickly, and a lit candle inside is a hazard around pets, so battery lights are a safer choice.
Puppies love a snug spot, and a hollow pumpkin is just the right size. This little one looks calm and a bit curious, like she is waiting to see who will notice. Nobody will mind that the jack-o'-lantern has a new tenant, and she certainly makes it look better.
