This Ghost Had Floppy Ears and a Very Wet Nose
The ghost has floppy ears. A lemon and white Beagle puppy sits on a soft blanket draped in a thin white sheet with two cut eye holes, and her long ears and brown eye patches peek out from the top. Her dark nose and bright eyes give her away immediately. Behind her, a small pumpkin, a stuffed bear and a cheerful pile of household clutter fill the corner of a sunlit living room. She is the least scary ghost in the neighborhood.
Beagles are friendly, curious scent hounds with an amazing nose that leads them everywhere. Because they follow smells, they are often food-motivated and need secure fences and leashes on walks. A costume is fine for a short time as long as it does not cover the eyes, nose or mouth too much, and the dog can move, hear and breathe freely. Watch your puppy closely, since a loose sheet can catch feet, and stop if she shows stress. Check with your vet if you have any concerns about costumes.
A ghost with a wagging tail is a lot more likely to get treats than scares. This puppy sits quite still for her costume, which says a lot about her patience. When the sheet comes off, she will probably go straight back to sniffing for dinner, but for now she is the sweetest spirit in the house.
