A Fluffy White Puppy Joined the Pumpkin Display on the Porch

A cloud of white fluff sits on the porch boards, looking off to the side with dark button eyes. The Bichon Frise puppy is surrounded by autumn: round orange pumpkins at her paws, a pale green gourd, a mottled tan one and a bundle of tall dried cornstalks leaning against the rail. A few brown leaves dot the weathered floor, and the house siding behind her is a soft gray. Her curly coat looks as if it has been fluffed with a hairdryer.

Bichons are cheerful, playful small dogs, known for their round curly coat and love of company. That coat does not shed much, but it mats easily, so regular brushing and trips to a groomer are a part of life. They are social and do best with plenty of attention, and puppies need early socialization and gentle training. Decorative gourds and corn should stay out of reach, since dried corn cobs and stalks can cause stomach trouble if chewed or swallowed, and your vet can advise if your puppy nibbles on one.

White puppies on orange pumpkins is a fine color pairing, and this one seems to know it. She sits politely, with her head turned, as though listening for a bag of treats. The porch looks ready for visitors, and she is the most welcoming decoration of all.
