The Smallest Doorman Guarded the Halloween Candy Bowl
Beside the front door, a glass bowl sits full of shiny wrapped candy, and a very small Yorkie puppy sits right next to it. She is turned sideways, with her blue-gray back and tan face lit by afternoon light, and she appears to be studying the doorway rather than the sweets. The door is open a crack and a cool breeze seems to be coming in. She is acting like a tiny doorman for the trick-or-treaters.
Halloween brings a steady stream of visitors, and the doorbell can be stressful for dogs. If your puppy gets worked up, set up a quiet space away from the door with water, a comfy bed and a chew toy, and consider using a gate. Open doors are an escape risk, so a leash or a barrier helps, and an ID tag or microchip is a good idea. Keep the candy bowl out of puppy reach, as chocolate and wrappers are hazardous, and ask your vet about any concerns.
Yorkies are bold little terriers who take their guard duty seriously. This one is polite for now, her ears alert, tiny paws together. Whether she is guarding the candy or only waiting for the first costume to appear, she seems ready to do the job with great seriousness, and no bowl will be raided on her watch.
