A Silver Tabby Took the Sled and Showed No Plans to Share
Snow covers the lawn, a wreath hangs on the house across the yard and a chunky silver tabby sits in a bright red sled as if it were a throne. Her coat is a swirl of dark gray stripes, her face is round and solemn and her eyes are fixed on something at the edge of the picture. The sled rope curls beside her in the snow. Bare trees stand behind her in the golden low sun of a winter afternoon.
British Shorthairs are sturdy, round-faced cats with dense, plush coats. They are known for a calm, undemanding nature, and many enjoy company without being clingy. They are often content with a quiet lap, and they tend to gain weight easily, so measured meals and play keep them healthy. Their thick coat sheds seasonally, and a weekly brushing helps. A cat like this is best kept warm and supervised in winter, and wiped dry after any time in the snow. Your vet can advise on diet and weight.
The sled may never actually move, since this cat looks far too dignified for a downhill ride. But as a seat with a view, it works well. She watches the yard with the calm of a cat who knows that all good things come to those who wait, preferably in a comfortable spot.
