A Cocker Spaniel Puppy Sat Quietly Under the Orange Porch Lights
Soft orange lights are strung along the porch roof, and below them a buff Cocker Spaniel puppy sits on the wooden steps with her long, silky ears hanging low. Her head is turned to the side, her eyes soft and thoughtful. Pots of orange mums, a few tiny pumpkins and fallen leaves decorate the stairs, and a gray fence and a tree with red leaves wait beyond. It is a quiet evening, and she looks as if she is thinking about something sweet.
Cocker Spaniels are gentle, affectionate dogs with beautiful long ears and a playful, happy temperament. Those ears can trap moisture and dirt, so regular cleaning and a check for redness or smell is a good habit, and the coat needs brushing a few times a week. They love to be with their people, and early training and socialization help a young puppy grow into a well-mannered companion. If your puppy chews on string lights, move them out of reach, since cords can be dangerous, and call your vet if she chews a wire.
A porch in October is a lovely place for a puppy to sit and watch the world go by. This one has found her spot, and she looks content to enjoy it. The lights glow, the leaves fall and the night comes slowly. She does not need a costume to be the best part of the evening.
