A Tiny Gray Bumblebee Tiptoed Through the Crunchy Leaves
A very small, very gray bee is making its way across the fallen leaves. The kitten wears a fuzzy yellow-and-black striped costume with two pom-pom antennae bobbing above her head and a pair of striped wings on her back. Her gold-green eyes are wide and a touch suspicious, and one paw is lifted as she picks her way through crunchy orange and brown leaves and a few scattered acorns. In the background, a carved pumpkin grins from the step beside a pile of shoes and a black blanket. We'll call her Honey.
Costumes can be a bit much for a kitten, and a bumblebee is a good example of what to look for. The best outfits sit comfortably on the body and keep the head, face, and legs free. Antennae and wings can be fun, but they should be lightweight and attached firmly, with nothing a cat could pull off and swallow. If she walks stiffly, freezes, or tries to scratch the costume off, it is not for her, and that's perfectly fine.
Fall leaves are a delight for a kitten, but outdoor time should be supervised. Piles of leaves can hide sharp sticks, damp spots, and insects, and a kitten can disappear into one quickly. Acorns, which you can see here, can cause stomach trouble if chewed, so keeping a young cat away from them is a smart idea. If you want to let your kitten enjoy the crunch safely, a harness and a long, light leash lets her explore while you stay close. Ask your vet when your kitten is old enough for outdoor time.
Honey is moving carefully, one step at a time. The antennae wobble, the leaves crackle, and the little bee carries on.
