A Wrinkly Puppy Sat Under the Bat Garland With a Worried Brow
Right under a paper garland of black bats and orange leaves, a cream-colored, flat-faced puppy sits on the welcome mat with a slightly worried look. His wrinkled forehead and big dark eyes look straight up at the viewer. A pair of slippers rests by the wall, a jacket lies in a pile, and the open door lets in daylight. The tiny paper bats look like they are mid-flight, and his round little paws are neatly together on the mat.
Flat-faced dogs, such as Pugs, are loved for their expressive wrinkles and clownish personalities, but their short noses can make breathing harder in heat or during hard exercise. Short walks in cool weather, plenty of shade, and a harness rather than a collar are usually wise choices. Your vet can advise on what is best for your puppy.
Halloween garlands can look like chew toys to a curious puppy, and paper or string pieces can be a swallowing hazard. Hang decorations high, and pick up anything that falls to the floor. If he does chew something he should not, call your vet.
We can call him Waffles. With his worried brow and his hopeful face, he looks like he is waiting for someone to tell him that the spooky bats are not coming for him. It is hard not to feel a little protective of a face like that, and the garland above him seems more charming than scary.
