A Border Collie Puppy Stopped at the Entrance to the Hay Maze

AI imageborder colliehay mazepuppy

At the opening of a small tunnel made of hay bales, a red-and-white puppy sits with his head tilted and his ears perked. His soft brown eyes look up at someone nearby, and his fluffy coat is dotted with straw. Orange pumpkins and fallen leaves line the path, and a house with a window peeks from behind the maze. A small orange pumpkin sits at the corner of the entrance, and the straw tunnel disappears into a shadowy turn.

Border Collies are known for being among the smartest dogs, and they love to run, herd, and solve problems. They do best with a job, whether it is agility, fetch, or learning new tricks. A puppy like this one needs lots of exercise and gentle training to keep his clever mind busy.

Hay and straw can look like fun to a puppy, but they may carry dust, mold, or sharp bits that irritate eyes and noses. Hay is not food for dogs and can cause trouble if eaten. Keep an eye on him when he explores, and brush him off after play.

We can call him Rusty. He seems to be deciding whether to go in, and with a brain like his, he will probably figure out the maze in no time. Whatever he decides, the first step looks like it will be a happy one, and the hay is soft on the way in.
