A Bernese Puppy Became the Sweetest Pumpkin on the Block
On the front step, a tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog puppy sits tall in a knitted orange pumpkin costume. A little green stem tops his head, and the scalloped orange collar sits around his neck like a bumpy pumpkin. His brown eyes look steadily ahead, and the open door behind him reveals a coat rack and a pair of boots. Dry leaves dust the step beside him, and a wreath hangs on the wall above the coat rack.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are big, gentle dogs from the Swiss Alps who were once used as farm helpers. They are calm and loyal, and they love being with their family. Because they grow quickly, puppies should get gentle exercise instead of too much running or jumping, and your vet can tell you what is right for his age.
Dressing a puppy for Halloween can be a fun treat, as long as the costume suits him. Look for soft fabric, a roomy fit, and no pieces that can be chewed off and swallowed. If he is curious about the costume, let him sniff it first and pair it with treats. Never leave a puppy alone while he is wearing it.
Between the stem, the fluffy fur, and that serious face, he is a very convincing pumpkin, perhaps the best one on the street. He sits so still that you might forget he is only a puppy, until a big paw shifts and the whole costume wobbles.
