Penny Opened Her Mouth as Wide as She Could for the Snowflakes
With his front paws lifted and his head tipped way back, the Cavalier puppy opens his mouth as wide as it will go and waits for the sky to deliver. Long black ears swing out to each side, his chestnut eyebrows lift, and a pink tongue shows. Snowflakes tumble through the air around him, and the porch and bare shrubs behind him fade into a soft winter haze.
Dogs often chase and snap at falling things, and snowflakes are simply an irresistible version. It is a good natural game that gets a puppy jumping and moving in the fresh air. Snow itself is generally harmless to catch, but watch out for any yard areas where road salt, antifreeze, or deicers might have been spread, because those can be harmful. If you're unsure, rinse the paws and keep your pup in a clean area.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are gentle and cheerful, and they tend to meet each new experience with a wagging tail. They have silky ears that can pick up moisture quickly, so after a snowy romp a quick dry with a soft towel keeps them comfortable. Short sessions are plenty for a small puppy still building stamina.
Let's name her Penny. She's convinced that if she opens wide enough, the clouds will finally send down one big snowflake meant just for her.
