A Tiny Yorkie Guards the Entryway Under the Hanging Bats

AI imageyorkshire terrierhalloweenbat garland

Orange pumpkins, black bats and maple-leaf cutouts hang in a string over the entryway, and directly underneath sits a small Yorkshire Terrier with his ears pricked. His coat is steel blue on the back and golden tan on the face, and his dark eyes stare straight at whoever is holding the camera. Behind him are a woven mat, shoes and a bench with a knit blanket.

Yorkshire Terriers are small dogs with big personalities. They are known for their bold, lively nature, and they are often watchful and quick to bark when someone arrives. Their fine, silky coat needs regular brushing, and their small size means they are best protected from cold weather and rough play.

Hanging garland above a dog's head is fine, but low-hanging decorations can be tempting to grab and chew. Paper and cardboard pieces may cause stomach upset if swallowed, and strings can be a hazard. Keep garland high and check that nothing has fallen onto the floor. Yorkies are also small enough to slip through open doors, so on trick-or-treat night it can help to keep the dog in a quiet room away from the door.

The Yorkie seems calm in his new festive setting. He may be little, but he sits like the proud captain of this entryway. When the doorbell does ring, expect a flurry of tiny barks, followed by a very satisfied wiggle.
